AREOL - Action research and evaluation on line

Twice a year ALARA offers a free 15-week online course on action research and evaluation. The next program begins in mid-February 2021, with orientation material sent out in early February. The course is run by email.

If you decide to subscribe to it, email Bob Dick for subscription details. He will subscribe and welcome you. His email is bd@bigpond.net.au.

You may also email any questions about the Areol program to the same address: bd@bigpond.net.au.

Whether or not you enrol in the course you can access an earlier version on the web at http://www.aral.com.au/areol/ at any time. It is less complete and less often revised than the email version. Also, it lacks a discussion list. However the general style and content is similar. It will give you an idea of the included topics and the approach. You don't need a subscription to access it.

Ideas and Assistance for Webinars

The success of the ALARA-BALT Conference produced a desire to create many short webinars (that is, 1.5- to 2-hour events). Like the workshops in the online conference, these webinars would be structured around a short presentation on a current topic or idea, with breakout rooms and discussion.

Depending on the presenter, topic and locations of potential participants, these webinars may be held early in the day in Eastern Australia (therefore, late afternoon in the Americas and evening in Europe), middle of the day in Eastern Australia (evening in the Americas) or evening in Eastern Australia (morning in Europe), and could be repeated if there was sufficient interest. Sessions would be recorded, so those unable to attend could hear the presentations and concluding comments following the breakout room discussions.

As with the Conference, we would encourage small groups to gather and participate in these webinars. Cost of attendance would be minimal - sufficient for ALARA to cover the cost of the software.

We therefore invite members to suggest topics and presenters, or to offer their assistance for one or more webinars. Please send your ideas or offer of help to admin[at}alarassociation.org.

Call for Venue for ALARA 2021 Conference

The ALARA Board is seeking a potential venue for thisn year's Conference. Preparing for a conference takes up to twelve months (and sometimes more), so a partner for the 2021 Conference must be identified soon. Naturally, potential restrictions to travel across State and international borders and social distancing may continue well into 2021, so an event must be able to cope with face-to-face, virtual or a hybrid arrangements.

If you would like to discuss a possible event, please contact us at admin[at]alarassociation.org.

Invitation to Assist ALARA

ALARA's Board has identified a range of activities and they are seeking people willing to assist in delivering these activities. Examples of these activities include:

  • As mentioned above, several ideas for webinars have been floated.

  • Several members are involved in research, with at least two other projects on the horizon. The alliance with GCWAL (see below) also supports further research.

  • The recognition of First Nations People and supporting their work in action learning and action research is another exciting opportunity.

  •

If you would like to know more, or want to assist, please contact ALARA.

Journal Site Renewal

The old Journal site has been replaced and is located at https://alarj.alarassociation.org.

You can access the new site, just like the old site. Your original login and password will be the same, but please note, the main site and Journal site have different logins, and if you had different user names and passwords, that will continue.

If you cannot access the Journal site properly, please email admin@alarassociation.org.

Old ALARA Site

The old ALARA site (alara.net.au) is written in old code, and has not been updated for several years. ALARA will be removing that site in coming weeks. People registered on the site have been sent an email, encouraging them to copy anything they wish to keep from the site before it closes.
