Welcome to ALARA's regular e-News of activities, events and information

for the Action Learning / Action Research Community.

Your contributions to this fortnightly bulletin are welcome. Please send any items to admin@alarassociation.org

We at ALARA hope that you and those close to you are safe and well. If you are feeling bored and in need of stimulation, please consider renewing a friendship with an AL / AR practitioner, or striking up a new one. The ALARA members pages allow you to contact other ALARA members. You may be surprised by the opportunity to create new projects or new ideas, and the conversation amongst kindred spirits is often uplifting. ALARA can also offer some things to do!

If you would like assistance in contacting ALARA members, please email admin [at] alarassociation.org.

Information about events is frequently changing. Information that is available at the time of production of this e-News has been included, but you may wish to keep checking relevant links, as the situation for each event could change at any time.

ALARA-BALT 2020 Australasian Conference

- Moving towards a Virtual Conference

Launceston Tasmania

The continuing uncertainty about travel restrictions means the Organising Committee for the ALARA-BALT Conference are progressing plans for a virtual conference, with localised face-to-face groups.

The Organising Committee will establish a central hub, from which they will co-ordinate the conference. Participants will join the conference virtually via Zoom webinar. Participants may choose to meet in small groups, such as a venue in Launceston, or anywhere around the world. These satellite locations will mean local groups could form break out sessions in their own location, or join virtual break out rooms for discussions.

Presenters will conduct their sessions face-to-face or virtually. Both types of presentations should engage the participants. More submissions are welcomed. The revised proposal form includes instructions on the presentation scenarios. The final deadline for submissions is 3 August 2020.

More information about the conference is available on the Conference web pages.

Review of ALARA Object

Members should have received an email last week inviting them to contribute to the discussion about the Object. All members will be asked to vote at the Annual General Meeting later this year on the final version produced from these discussions.

Several members have already responded, with one raising the question of the title "Object", and whether this title should also be updated. This suggestion requires further investigation and we will advise you when more information is known. See here for more information (members will need to login to open this page).

ESAR

Global Evaluative Study of Action Research Presentation cancelled

Unfortunately, the continuing travel restrictions have claimed this event. The research team have concluded that it is highly unlikely that they will be able to meet in a single room this year, so they are now concentrating on the book of their research, which they hope to launch in 2021 at an ALARA event. More news to come late this year or next year.

Ethics Committee Guide

Members should also have received an email this week about a project initiative by ALARA to develop a guide for Master and Doctoral students in managing the approval process for Ethics Committees at their university. ALARA Member, Dr Pam Carey, has taken the lead in preparing this guide that will include information, examples and stories of success in navigating the Ethics Committee process.

Members (and others) are invited to assist Pam in this project by providing examples and stories. Several members have already volunteered, while others have indicated that they believe this project is a great initiative. If you are interested in helping on this project, please contact ALARA at admin [at] alarassociation.org.
