ESAR

Global Evaluative Study of Action Research Presentation - 6 May 2020

The Evaluative Study of Action Research (ESAR) is a meta-evaluative study of multiple Action Research (AR) projects. It was conceived because of an identified need to better understand the complex systems that sit behind AR studies. The ESAR aims to examine processes, outcomes and impacts of AR on a global scale. The ESAR comprises a nine-strong research team from New Zealand, Australia and Canada, who have combined to conduct rigorous, mixed methods research whilst also holding and applying deep experience with AR principles and values.

Several of the members of the research team will be in Sydney, Australia for a presentation and discussion about the results of the study. This event will be held at UTS on 6 May 2020 - please register here or send the information flyer to your colleagues.

Brisbane ALARA Conversation - Radical Placemaking - 12 March 2020

Public spaces are intended to represent a community’s vision and needs, but city designs exclude many. However, those who are excluded and marginalised engage in subtle tactics of resistance to produce the city they want. Kavita Gonsalves proposes Radical Placemaking as one such tactic.

The Conversation will take place in Yeronga Village on 12 March 2020 - please see the flyer for more information, and the following background article.

Printing of ALARA publications

Early in 2019, Sydney University Press (SUP), who had been printing ALARA publications for several years, advised that they had to stop that service. The University had directed SUP to concentrate on University-generated publications. In about June 2019, ALARA's publications were removed from SUP's site.

For most of 2019, ALARA has been seeking a replacement printing service. The Board has agreed on the following arrangements.

  • For newly printed copies of the Action Learning and Action Research Journal and ALARA Monograph series, ALARA has arranged for Ingram Spark to produce and post copies on a print-on-demand basis. Ingram Spark is a worldwide distributor for publications. It can arrange for ALARA's publications to be available through online book distributors, including Amazon (these distributors have to decide to take on the publications, so we will have to wait to see if any decide to provide ALARA publications).

These printed versions will become available during the next month or so, and we will provide more details as they become available.

  • Previously printed copies of some of the issues of the Action Learning and Action Research Journal are available now. Details will be provided via the ALARA website in coming weeks.

  • Electronic copies of the Action Learning and Action Research Journal are available through several methods.
    • Individual articles of the Action Learning and Action Research Journal are available to members via the Journal website.

    • ALARA supplies copies of the Action Learning and Action Research Journal to Informit and EBSCO for loading in their search sites, where the public can access individual articles. Members can access the Informit site free of charge after logging into the ALARA site - more details here.

    • ALARA loads the entire issue of each Action Learning and Action Research Journal on its website, and members can access all issues, while the public can access all but the last twelve months of publications.

    • ALARA also loads the Monographs on its website, again with a restriction for the last twelve months.
