ALARA 2024 Australasian Conference

The ALARA - UTS conference is now confirmed. It will be held in Sydney Australia on 7 & 8 November 2024, with remote attendance also possible. UTS is located close to the Sydney CBD, and there are plenty of accommodation options as well as good public transport connections.

The theme is "Multidisciplinary Action Research" and the Organising Committee are seeking presentations reflecting the diversity that is Action Learning and Action Research.

The Committee is inviting people to submit abstracts for keynote presentations, papers, workshops, artistic displays, posters and other contributions. Contributions may be made online as well as in-person at the venue. Details of the conference and the submission process are available here.

Please tell your colleagues about this important conference - ALARA's first in four years!

Webinar

Leading up to the conference we plan to conduct several webinars. The first was held on 1 March via Zoom - "Sustainability, Systemic Change and Action Research". The video of that webinar will be available soon.

A second webinar is now scheduled: "Use of Arts with Action Research" with presenter Geof Hill. It will be held at 1.00 pm on Thursday 16 May 2024.

Registrations are now open. Attendance is free, but registration is required to ensure we can provide you with the Zoom link. Please see the event information and register for this interesting event.

Monographs

Yes, plural! Our Monographs editor, Eileen Piggot-Irvine has been managing the review and preparation of two monographs. The first, a follow-on from the 8th ALARA Monograph published in 2022, is entitled Action and Evaluation in Alternative Education: How Students’ Stories Shape Teaching Practices, and it will be available within the next two weeks.

A second monograph, “You were the neck, and we, as participants, were the head”: Preschool teacher’s perception of using action research for professional development, will be published next month. We encourage you to read these new publications (and we encourage submissions of new papers for publication).

Networking of ALARA Supporters

We are planning further meetings of ALARA supporters in May. If you wish to attend a meeting, please email ALARA.
